Abeberell Satterfield sentencing likely delayed
The sentencing for former University of Iowa football player Abeberell Satterfield will likely be delayed.
Satterfield was scheduled to be sentenced Friday. However, on Thursday Assistant Johnson County Attorney Anne Lahey requested the sentencing be pushed back, according to online court documents.
Originally charged with second-degree and third-degree sexual assault and assault with intent to inflict serious injury, Satterfield agreed to a deal in April in which he would plea guilty to the assault charge and turn state witness against his codefendant and former teammate, Cedric Everson.
The continuance is likely tied to Everson’s trial, which has bee delayed and has yet to be rescheduled. A status conference for that case is scheduled for Friday.
Satterfield and Everson are accused of sexually assaulting a former University of Iowa student athlete on Oct. 14, 2007.
