Iowa football: Tony Moeaki signs contract with Kansas City Chiefs
Former Iowa Hawkeye tight end Tony Moeaki has signed a contract to play for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs made the announcement today on their website. Moeaki was the 29th player taken in the draft’s third round, the 93rd taken overall. Financial details weren’t disclosed.
Moeaki fared well in the draft despite the fact that he had an injury-plagued career at Iowa. A member of the vaunted 2005 recruiting class, he played as a true freshman that year and had 8 catches for 112 yards. He had 11 catches for 140 yards in 2006.
Moeaki was coming into his own in 2007. He had 14 catches for 170 yards in the first four games of the season, but an injury against Wisconsin forced him out for the rest of the season. He managed a medical redshirt for that year. In 2008, he missed four games and parts of two others with injuries and finished with 13 catches for 144 yards.
He missed three more games in 2009, but had his best season as a Hawkeye, finishing his collegiate career with 30 catches for 387 yards.
