Iowa football: Five Hawkeye storylines to watch
- In addition to starter Adam Robinson, who else will carry the football for Iowa today? Not having the suspended Jewel Hampton available for today’s game, and with Brandon Wegher absent from the team, the backup running back should be senior Paki O’Meara. He started the season opener against Northern Iowa last season, but then struggled, including losing a fumble, and played sparingly in the second half and for the rest of the season.
- How will Iowa’s offensive line, which includes three new starters, respond to facing a real opponent? Iowa has two offensive linemen making their first career starts and another making his second. With so many talented and experienced skill players on offense, it’ll be important for the offensive line to do its part.
- Will senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi make it through today’s game without throwing an interception? Stanzi’s biggest weakness as a quarterback is that he tends to force the issue. He threw 15 interceptions last season, including four that were returned for touchdowns.
- Will somebody emerge as Iowa’s No. 1 kicker today? Probably not, especially if all the kickers aren’t available because of health reasons.
- Will the Iowa defense pick up where it left off last season despite having two new starters at linebacker? Nothing against Eastern Illinois, but that question probably won’t be answered until Iowa faces a better opponent.
