Iowa women defeat Virginia Tech

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico — The Iowa women’s basketball team gave up just 15 first-half points in a 72-43 win Friday against Virginia Tech in its second game of the Caribbean Challenge.

just 26 minutes. No.20 Iowa (7-0) won
despite 5-of-19 shooting from starting forwards Kelly Krei and Kachine Alexander, the team’s leading scorer.

The Hawkeyes made 12-of-29 3-pointers and 14-of-16 free throws.

The Hokies were held to just 19-of-52 (32.2 percent) from the field and 0-for-10 on 3-pointers.

Virginia Tech got only 11 points out of its starting lineup in the loss.

The Hawkeyes next head to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the No. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday.
