Clayborn named Camp all-American

Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn was named to the Walter Camp all-America team announced Thursday.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton headlined the nation’s oldest all-America team, which was unveiled on ESPN.

The top-ranked Tigers had the most players (three) selected to the first team.

Oklahoma State and Texas Christian each had two players chosen to the first team.
Other awards announced Thursday night:

• Auburn’s Newton won the Maxwell Award presented annually to the nation’s best all-around college player.

The other finalists were Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore.

• Newton also won the Davey O’Brien Award presented to the nation’s best quarterback.

The other finalists for the award were Stanford’s Luck and Boise State’s Moore.

• Florida’s Chas Henry won the Ray Guy Award, presented to the best punter. Henry beat Iowa’s Ryan Donahue and Georgia’s Drew Butler.

• Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi won the Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman. The other finalists were Florida State guard Rodney Hudson and Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder.

• LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson is the winner of the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s best defensive player.

Peterson also took home the Jim Thorpe Award as the best defensive back.

• Oklahoma State’s Dan Bailey won the Lou Groza Award as the top kicker.

• Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon won the Biletnikoff Award presented to college football’s best receiver.

• Oregon’s LaMichael James won the Doak Walker Award as the best running back.

• Auburn’s Gene Chizik, formerly of Iowa State, was named Home Depot coach of the year.
