Florida QB Rudock reaffirms commitment to Hawkeyes

[ 34 ] January 24, 2011 |

Relax Iowa fans.

The father of quarterback recruit Jake Rudock said Monday night that his son is not wavering over his commitment to Iowa or planning to visit the University of Miami.

“He is still solid with Iowa,” Bob Rudock said. “He is not de-committing. That’s not happening.”

Reports surfaced shortly after Al Golden was hired as the new head coach at Miami that Jake Rudock was now considering the Hurricanes.

Jake Rudock attends perennial power St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He led his team to a 15-0 record while passing for nearly 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior this past season.

Golden began recruiting Rudock almost immediately after being hired at Miami in December.

Bob Rudock said they listened to Golden simply as a courtesy to the University of Miami. Bob Rudock has been a season ticket holder for Miami football since the early 1980s and one of his sons also attends medical school at Miami.

Bob Rudock said Golden compared his son to former Miami star quarterback Ken Dorsey.

“There has been no wavering on his part,” Bob Rudock said of Jake. “We have lots of friends at the University of Miami. And as soon as coach Golden got down here he made it his top priority to try and get Jake.

“He sat in our house and said you are Ken Dorsey with a higher skill set.”

Bob Rudock said the Miami coaches are still trying to convince Jake to visit, but that his son’s mind is made up.

“We’ve tried to make it clear to (coach Golden) today that he’s going to Iowa because of all this crazy stuff on the blogs,” Bob Rudock said.

Jake Rudock committed to Iowa on July 1st and is the only quarterback in the 2011 recruiting class.

“He just really likes the school and he loves the fans,” Bob Rudock said. “I can’t tell you how much he appreciates the fans.”
