Lomax commits to play for Iowa
Jordan Lomax put an end to his recruiting process Monday night when the Maryland defensive back announced his commitment to Iowa.
Now the 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback prospect can concentrate on another recruiting task — getting a couple of his teammates to come along.
“Trust me,” Lomax said, “I’m trying my best.”
Lomax is one of three players Iowa targeted from DeMatha Catholic High School. The Hawkeyes also have been in pursuit of offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio and defensive lineman Darian Cooper after landing running back Marcus Coker last year from the school in Hyattsville, Md.
“It’s a nice pipeline from DeMatha to Iowa that’s starting,” Lomax said. “I hope the tradition continues.”
Lomax said Kouandjio and Cooper plan to announce where they’re headed Wednesday, when the national signing period begins.
Lomax originally planned to sign with Virginia. He committed to the Cavaliers in April. He said Iowa entered the picture in December, and the Hawkeyes gave him a lot to think about with the possibility of playing in the same secondary as his friend, Nico Law, a safety prospect from Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Md.
“The University of Iowa is the school that benefits my academic and football interests the best,” Lomax said. “It has a great coaching staff, great teammates, great fan base, great city; I just loved it.”

I don’t have any worries that kids who went to a Jesuit high school will keep their noses clean. They are not going to be strangers to discipline either!!
Wouldn’t it be great to have four or five DeMatha kids as Hawkeyes. Jordan, I hope you really shine as a Hawkeye and enjoy your experiences at a great university whose academic programs can give you a great start along the rest your your road of life.

Dear LettermanHawk,
I am a DeMatha grad 1967. Formerly lived in Marion, IA. Coached basketball Hawkeye Cara Consuegra as a youth.
DeMatha is a great school but it is not a Jesuit school. The Trinitarians founded and are the backbone of DeMatha.
At DeMatha, sports come way down the priority list after God, Family, Academics. Any teacher can pull any student athlete off of a sport if they are not getting their grades. Madison St. in Hyattsville is lined with banners “Gentlemen and Scholars”.
I always felt Iowa was a good match for DeMatha athletes. Jordan should like being a Hawkeye!

Just read on Twitter that Jordan Lomax is an honor roll student with a 4.0 gpa. What a great addition to the Hawkeye football team, brains and athletic abilities. Good Luck Jordan!

Jordon’s comments illustrate perfectly the overall quality of the individuals that Iowa recruits. When you ask yourself “what attracts football players to Iowa?”, Jordon says it all.
