Recruit Cezar Guerrero likely to visit Iowa

[ 0 ] February 25, 2011 |

High school point guard Cezar Guerrero recently put on quite a show for Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery.

Guerrero, who attends St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., scored 30 points during his team’s four-point playoff loss earlier this week.

McCaffery was among those on hand to watch, along with assistant coaches from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

And now it appears McCaffery will be rewarded for the attention he has shown Guerrero with an official visit.

Guerrero’s travel team coach, Dinos Trigonis, told Rivals.com that Guerrero likely will visit Oklahoma State this weekend and Iowa the following weekend.

Florida State, Marquette and New Mexico State reportedly also are trying to get Guerrero to visit. Guerrero is ranked as the No. 61 prospect in the Rivals top 150 for the 2011 senior class.

Kansas also has expressed interest in Guerrero, but whether he gets offered a scholarship will depend on if current Kansas players Josh Selby and Tyshawn Taylor return next season.

“The Kansas offer is conditional on whether Selby and Taylor come back next year,” Trigonis told Rivals.com. “They want him to visit. But that probably won’t happen unless one or two of those guys aren’t coming back next year.”

Guerrero, who is from the same hometown as former Iowa guard Steve Carfino, once was committed to Western Kentucky. Guerrero already has visited Western Kentucky and could Oklahoma and could still take up to three more official visits.

Mccaffery would like to sign two players this spring, preferably a guard and a front court player. He already signed two high school seniors last November, including Cedar Rapids Washington shooting guard Josh Oglesby
