Report: Wegher no longer part of Oklahoma team

[ 29 ] March 23, 2011 |

Former Iowa running back Brandon Wegher now is a former Oklahoma Sooner as well, according to Jake Trotter, who covers the Oklahoma football team for the Oklahoman newspaper.

Trotter wrote on his Twitter site Wednesday night that Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said earlier in the day that Wegher was no longer on the team.

“Yeah, he’s not with us anymore,” Stoops told the Oklahoman. “That didn’t last real long.”

Wegher enrolled at Oklahoma for the spring semester and was expected to participate in spring practice.

The former Sioux City Heelan star transferred to Oklahoma after spending the fall semester at Iowa. Wegher left the Iowa football team for personal reasons before the start of the 2010 season and didn’t return after playing as a true freshman in the 2009 season.

He rushed for 641 yards and set an Iowa freshman record with eight rushing touchdowns in 2009.
