Draxten ends her playing career
Iowa sophomore guard/forward Hannah Draxten has decided to step away from basketball because of reoccurring back problems.
Assistant coach Jan Jensen confirmed that Draxten will not return to the bench as a player next season.
Draxten played in 30 games as a freshman and hit 23 3-pointers. She only competed in four games her sophomore year before missing the year with a back injury and took a redshirt season.
Draxten returned this year and played in 24 games. She had nine 3-pointers but was again limited by her back injury.
Iowa returns four starters – Kamille Wahlin, Kelly Krei, Morgan Johnson, Jaime Printy – for the 2011-12 season. Draxten’s loss will affect Iowa’s depth, and may push more of the five-player freshman class into action.
