Peterson: Is Northwestern at Iowa headed to prime time?

[ 4 ] May 19, 2011 |

You’ve all probably heard by now that the Big Ten Network is going to make a gigantic production about which football games will be televised prime time on the BTN  this fall.

Will Northwestern at  Iowa on Oct. 15  at Kinnick be one of them. Maybe that’s the Hawkeyes’ only prime time BTN game, which would be all right with newspaper  reporters everywhere.

The hours-long show Thursday night will be worth about two graphs in most major newspapers. But at least it feeds the fans.

Which is what the BTN is all about….that and making oodles of dough for the conference and the schools.

MEDIA ALERT

‘Big Ten Football Report’ to Reveal Network’s Primetime Football Schedule,

Will Include Interviews with Hall of Famers Carr, George

CHICAGO – A special edition of the Big Ten Football Report at 8 PM ET on Thursday will reveal the Big Ten Network’s 2011 primetime football schedule and also feature interviews with Michigan’s Lloyd Carr and Ohio State’s Eddie George following their inclusion in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Carr and George are two of the four individuals with Big Ten ties named earlier this week to the 2011 College Football Hall of Fame class, along with Michigan State’s Gene Washington and Minnesota’s Sandy Stephens. Nebraska’s Will Shields was also among those selected.

Dave Revsine will host the program and will be joined by Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith. The three will discuss the network’s primetime football matchups and their significance as plans for the 2011 football season are underway.

The show will be preceded at 6 PM ET by the 2006 thriller between No. 1 Ohio State vs. No. 2 Michigan. Immediately after Big Ten Football Report, at 8:30 PM ET, the network will air Michigan’s 2008 Capital One Bowl victory against Florida, Carr’s final game as head coach of the Wolverines.

NW owns Iowa. It could be an embarrassment.

Terrible article. I’d expect this out of a letters to the editor or a readers’ opinion section in the paper.

I haven’t heard of this and also wouldn’t consider this a “gigantic production”… What else are they going to aire… another replay of a game besides the one they’re playing beforehand? At least it’s current and forward thinking information. Sorry that the Big Twelve doesn’t have their own network that you can write about…. you’re lucky the conference still exists.
