Iowa gets two football recruits– One from SC, one from Chicago

Sioux City Heelan running back Michael Malloy Monday accepted coach Kirk Ferentz’ scholarship offer. The senior will join the program in the fall of 2012.

“Everything he’s done, he’s excelled at,” Heelan coach Roger Jansen said. “He’s just a good, hard-working kid.”

Malloy rushed for 1,668 yards and 29 touchdowns last season, but it could have been more.

“With our offensive scheme the way it is, he’s not going to get 30-35 carries a game like a lot of guys,” Jansen said. “When you look at his stat sheet, he’s not up there with the guys who get all those touches, but (Iowa) saw beyond that.”

Malloy’s commitment follows a commitment by Ryan Ward, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive lineman from Chicago.

They are the seventh and eighth Iowa commitments for 2012.
