Michigan did more than beat Ohio State on Nov. 26. That’s also when the Wolverines landed the top high school player in the state of Iowa.

“That was something, being in that stadium for that game,” said West Des Moines Dowling receiver Amara Darboh, who Sunday accepted the Wolverines’ scholarship offer. “I was in the stadium during the summer, but it obviously wasn’t anything like what it was when I was there for the game. I saw then why they call it the Big House.”

The senior said he picked the Michigan over Iowa, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

“I was going to make an official visit to Florida, too, but there’s no use now,” Darboh said. “My gut said Michigan, so that’s where I’m going.”

Darboh, who had 48 receptions 765 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, missed part of the football season because of a torn labrum for which he will have surgery Dec. 30.

“It’s nothing really too serious,” said Darboh, who is playing on the basketball team until the surgery. “It’s something that I need to get out of the way now, rather than wait.”

Darboh commitment rumors circulated around the Michigan campus last weekend, where Iowa State faced the Wolverines in basketball. When contacted Friday night, Darboh said he was waiting to contact the coaches before making an announcement.

“I like the way that the program is moving,” Darboh said. “I feel I can go there and make an impact.”
