Prater says he’ll hydrate, beat desert heat
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Iowa cornerback Shaun Prater said Tuesday that he’s going to play Friday, no matter how much liquid he must drink.
“I’m out there, regardless,” the senior said after practice. “There’s a game, right? I’m definitely playing every snap.
“I have no off button. Even when I’m sleeping, I’m still twitching in the bed, trying to pick the ball off, trying to make sure my footwork is perfect.”
The Hawkeyes will need all the defensive help they can get during Friday’s Insight Bowl against Oklahoma at Sun Devil Stadium.
The Sooners have the quickest no-huddle spread offense Iowa will have faced this season, which means there’s no time for leg cramps.
“I’ll be fine,” Prater said when asked if he was one of the players experiencing cramps while practicing in 60-degree weather.
When asked about Internet reports that he had been treated for dehydration, Prater responded: “I can’t answer that.”
Safety Jordan Bernstine says staying hydrated is simple.
“Drink a lot,” he said while holding a mostly-empty bottle of a sport drink. “We just have to make sure everybody’s hydrated.”
