Ferentz missed Paterno service
Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz was expected to attend Thursday’s public funeral service for former Penn State coach Paterno, the Iowa sports information office said Wednesday.
Ferentz was expected to be accompanied at the funeral by Paul Federici, director of football operations at Iowa.
But when Ferentz and Federici prepared to leave, their flight was grounded by fog.
The Bryce Jordan Center, which is Penn State’s basketball arena, was the sight of a public service called “A Memorial for Joe.”
Paterno died Sunday from complications from lung cancer at the age of 85 after serving as the head football coach at Penn State for the past 46 seasons.
Ferentz has been a Paterno fan for years, helped by the fact that Ferentz attended high school in Pittsburgh. Ferentz also compiled an 8-3 record against Paterno as the Iowa head coach.
