Oglesby a bright spot in Iowa loss at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery’s blood pressure has risen, more than once this season, after freshman guard Josh Oglesby has passed on an open jump shot.
“Shoot it,” McCaffery has yelled at him, more than once.
McCaffery didn’t have to yell that Sunday. Oglesby made six-of-eight 3-pointers, and eight-of-12 shots overall, while scoring a career-high 24 points in the Hawkeyes’ 103-89 loss at Indiana.
Oglesby’s previous high, 16 points, came in the third game of the season against Northern Illinois. He had scored a total of 26 points in Big Ten games, and never more than seven.
“I thought his movement without the ball, his shot selection, when to shoot it, when to shot fake and drive it, when to shot fake and shoot his pull-up, was the best it’s been,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said. “He’s really been working on it. And he’s a terrific player.”
Oglesby, who played at Cedar Rapids Washington, had been 4-of-20 from 3 in Big Ten games. But he said the extra work with coaches has helped him.
“They’ve been preaching at me to go off the dribble, pump fake and one dribble, pull up, stuff like that,” Oglesby said. “Just mixing it up. Because they’re flying at me as a shooter. When they fly at you, rip by them with one dribble and see if the other person helps. I’ve really worked on getting the shot off quicker.”
