Newsday says Coker to play for Stony Brook

[ 10 ] January 30, 2012 |

Stony Brook football is poised to take a step toward national prominence with the official announcement coming Wednesday that former Iowa running back Marcus Coker has enrolled as a transfer student, according to Newsday.com.

Stony Brook  coach Chuck Priore confirmed Monday that Coker is joining the team, Newsday said.

Coker rushed for 1,384 yards and scored 15 touchdowns as a sophomore last season, trailing only Heisman Trophy finalist Montee Ball of Wisconsin in Big Ten rushing.

Coker was investigated, but not charged, in an alleged sexual assault Oct. 28 in Iowa City, police said.

“The investigation is closed because the victim didn’t want to press charges,” Sgt. Denise Brotherton of the Iowa City police department said Monday.

Priore said he and Stony Brook administration officials investigated Coker’s background before clearing him to begin classes Monday.

Time (8:25 pm) for a rebuke.

“…“The investigation is closed because the victim didn’t want to press charges,” Sgt. Denise Brotherton of the Iowa City police department said Monday.”

This is a deplorable act of cowardly Journalism. That question or something similar to evoke such a fact. should of been asked on December 21, when “Hawk Central” “Sportz” Journalists reported that Dennis Green of UI police said there was no investigation of Coker.

To add insult to Injury, this article begins with the sinister implication “of national prominence”.

Really? The issue was serious; the reporting incompetent. No wonder it’s published by Hawk Central.

This couldn’t get published in the Atlantic Monthly.

You’re preoccupation with a minor grammar gaffe must of clouded your reading comprehension. The point being; at the time there was no similar statement from Iowa City Policed department implying that the question was never asked to them.

Secondly this was cut and paste from the News day article and has a different context. Hawk central posted another article titled “Coker releases statement through Stony Brook”, which was just another portion of the same article.

Thirdly, How can you accuse me of trolling when I consistently made comments on the reporting of this issue several times previously, specifically to the point about who, when and how the investigation was occurring?

Finally, your proof reading needs work, I meant a comma by I typed a period, where is your admonishment?

(As Bill Cosby would say) Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigt, Coker is going to help Stony Brook take “a step toward national prominence.” And Coker’s going there for the academics.

Joe, he was a 3.6 student at Iowa in the Van Allen School of Astronomy, and the story is that he let people copy off him and gave someone a test, and that is why he was sent packing. With that lesson learned, he will be a good student, I’m sure. You have little common sense. How is everything at State Penn….are little boys safe there now? Go troll somewhere else.

Interesting that the individual is a victim. Was a crime committed? Might as well have said he is guilty until proven innocent.

At this point, I have become numbed to it all. We are running guys out of here like it was the Amazing Race. We will never get off the 7-5 dime until we can keep some people here for a while, especilly at running back.

True enough. Maybe KF has learned some things. I wish Marcus the best but we have to move on. There is a rumor floating that McCall may want to come back to Iowa and play for the Hawks. Nothing substantiated. I say we look to the future and root for these new guys and current players like Canzeri, et. al.

Go Hawks….and where in the Sam Hell is Stoney Brook??? That would have helped to identify the school in the article.
