McCaffery’s slammed chair nets $2,100
It turns out the wrath of Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery can be used for charity, as well as motivating his team.
On Sunday at the Iowa baseball team’s Steak Fry fundraiser, a Michigan State bench chair autographed by McCaffery was sold for $2,100 in the auction.
McCaffery infamously slammed the chair in a moment of frustration during the 95-61 loss in East Lansing, Mich.
Iowa assistant sports information director Matthew Weitzel took a photo of the chair, autographed by McCaffery with “Coach with passion” and Go Hawks!” also written on it.
Weitzel said the idea came from Iowa baseball coach Jack Dahm, who called the Michigan State baseball coach, Jake Boss Jr., who shipped the chair to Iowa City.
Weitzel couldn’t confirm it was the same chair. “But it is a bench chair, and dinged on one of the legs in the back,” Weitzel said. “It’s possible that it is.”
Dahm then presented the chair to McCaffery, who was happy to sign it.
All proceeds raised at the Steak Fry go to benefit the baseball program. The fund raised at the 2011 Steak Fry allowed the team to take a fall trip to Missouri.
Iowa basketball (13-12, 5-7) returns to action on Thursday at Penn State.

That chair is priceless in as much as the Hawkeyes have been a different team since that incident. He lit a fire under his team. Go Hawks!

The Big Ten and Delaney ought to match that donation to some other charity, for their little ;scolding” of McCaffrey. lol.
