Asics to sponsor Fan Fest for wrestling trials
The Iowa City Self Supported Municipal Improvement District will host a festival for fans coming to town for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials.
The trials will be in Iowa City at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on April 21-22. The free fan fest is sponsored by wrestling shoe maker Asics.
Fans attending the Olympic trials can walk, drive or shuttle from Carver-Hawkeye Arena to downtown Iowa City, where the fan fest plans to have live music, kids activities, merchandise vendors and interactive wrestling-themed activities. Official Asics Fan Fest activities are scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. on April 21 and 22, during the intermission between wrestling sessions at the trials.
Scheduled musical acts include The Last Ride, Burlington Street Bluegrass Band, and The Awful Purdies. An updated schedule of events can be found at iowacitytolondon.com and downtowniowacity.com.
