Kathryn Reynolds out with torn ACL

[ 1 ] April 6, 2012 |

Iowa added another player to the training room on Wednesday when freshman Kathryn Reynolds tore her ACL during offseason workouts.

Iowa already has junior Jaime Printy recovering from an ACL tear she suffered Feb. 2 and two of the four incoming freshman had their senior seasons cut short by injury.

Reynolds tore the same ligament she injured during her junior season at Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Reynolds played in 21 games as a freshman, tallying 13 points, nine rebounds and 15 assists.

She may have had an increased role as a sophomore following the graduation of Kamille Wahlin.

“We were really looking forward to seeing Kathryn’s improvements throughout offseason workouts,” Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said in a release. “She has great skill and our depth at point guard is very thin right now.”

Iowa has five healthy guards going into the 2012-13 season — freshmen Samantha Logic and Melissa Dixon, junior Trisha Nesbitt, sophomore Theairra Taylor and incoming freshman Kali Peschel.

Taylor is now over year removed from her third ACL surgery, and Peschel returned to action this winter after suffering an ACL injury.

Reynolds is expected to have surgery within the next two weeks. Her availability for the 2012-13 season is uncertain.

“It’s always tough to see one of your players tear an ACL for the second time,” Bluder said. “Kathryn is a tough competitor and we expect her to make a full recovery.”
