Hawkeyes add O-line recruit
Two weeks ago, the Iowa football team didn’t have any verbal commitments from members of the 2013 high school senior class.
Now there are four with Illinois offensive lineman Colin Goebel picking the Hawkeyes on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Goebel, who is from Naperville, Ill., is rated as a three-star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com.
Goebel had at least 13 scholarship offers from schools that include Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, West Virginia, Mississippi and Miami (Fla.).
“I just narrowed down my choices and Iowa just seemed like the right fit,” Goebel told Hawkeye Insider.com. “A lot of the other schools that were interested, like Michigan and Notre Dame, already had guys (in the ’13 class) already on the o-line. I narrowed it down and Iowa was the only one left and just thought it was the right time.”
Goebel visited Iowa City on Saturday and told coach Kirk Ferentz that he was ready to commit.
Iowa’s others commitments from the 2013 senior class are defensive end David Kenney from Indianapolis, receiver Derrick Willies from Rock Island, Ill. and defensive back Delano Hill from Detroit.
