Hawks pick up two recruits
This was a productive weekend for the Iowa football team on the recruiting trail.
High school junior defensive lineman Nathan Bazata, who is from Howells, Neb., committed to Iowa on Sunday, a day after junior offensive lineman Colin Goebel pledged for the Hawkeyes.
The 6-foot-2, 275-pound Bazata also had a scholarship offer from South Dakota State and was hearing from Nebraska and Kansas State. But he told Hawkeye Insider.com that he wasn’t interested in letting the recruiting process continue.
“I feel very strong about Iowa,” said Bazata, who also wrestled in high school. “I’m positive that’s where I want to be.”
Bazata told Hawkeye Insider.com that he wouldn’t change his mind even if Nebraska came through with an offer.
“I don’t see me changing my mind,” he said.
Bazata is at least the fifth high school junior to pick Iowa. All of the commitments have come within the last two weeks.
Bazata plays eight-man football in Nebraska. Incoming Iowa recruits Drew Ott, a defensive end from Giltner, Neb., and running back/linebacker Nate Meier, who is from Freemont-Mills High School, also played eight-man football in high school.
