Defensive lineman commits to Hawks
Defensive lineman Brant Gressel is the sixth high school junior to make a verbal commitment to the Iowa football team since April 4.
Gressel picked Iowa over what he reported to be more than a dozen scholarship offers from schools that included Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, Louisville, Minnesota and Indiana.
The 6-foot-2, 280-pound Centerville, Ohio, native made his decision Monday night after visiting the Iowa campus last weekend.
“It felt great after the visit, and I wanted the weekend to figure it out,” Gressel told HawkeyeInsider.com.
“I feel like I can fit in there. I can see myself in the black and gold for four years. The coaches were very welcoming, and I’m excited about my future.”
Gressel is ranked as a three-star recruit by Scout.com and Rivals.com. Scout also ranks him as the 49th best defensive tackle in the 2013 class.
