Hawkeye running back Marcus Binns was cited for shoplifting Friday at the Coral Ridge Mall.
According to a Coralville police criminal complaint, Binns, 21, of Iowa City, swapped tags on two shirts to make it appear as though the one he was purchasing was only $17.32 rather than the original price of $75.
Binns was cited and released at the scene and is scheduled to appear in court on August 1.
Binns, brother of defensive end Broderick Binns, did not see any playing time in 2011.
“Due to injuries, Marcus Binns has not been an active member of the Iowa football program for over one calendar year,” coach Kirk Ferentz said of Binns. “Following the completion of spring practice, it was determined Marcus is no longer a part of the football team.”
