McCaffery says Kyle Meyer 'really a good kid'
Coach: Meyer ‘really a good kid’
Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery predicts that freshman forward Kyle Meyer, arrested early Saturday by University of Iowa police and charged with public intoxication, won’t make the same mistake again.
“He’
s really a good kid,” McCaffery said. “We will not hear from him any more on the negative side, I can tell you that.”
Meyer, 18, was arrest
ed at Hillcrest dorm at 12:41a.m. Saturday. It was the first time an Iowa basketball player has had a legal issue since Anthony Tucker was arrested in December of 2009 and charged with public intoxication.
“It’s a valuable lesson for Kyle, and it will be addressed,” McCaffery said. “But I’m not as concerned about where it was. He wasn’t downtown. He was in his dorm. And he wasn’t legally intoxicated. So I’m not as concerned as I would be if he was blowing a 0.2 at 4o’clock in the morning downtown.”
