Ferentz: Chance injured RBs will be back in action Saturday versus Central Michigan

[ 0 ] September 17, 2012 |

UPDATE: Iowa’s latest depth chart, released Monday, shows Mark Weisman and Michael Malloy as the top two running backs for Saturday’s 11 a.m.  game against Central Michigan at Kinnick Stadium. Both are walk-ons.

Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz said Sunday, on an Iowa athletic department web site video, that neither Damon Bullock or Greg Garmon had not been ruled out Saturday’s game.

An illness prevented Malloy from suiting up for last Saturday’s victory against Northern Iowa.

The Iowa running back situation might be in better shape than initially thought.

There is a chance, albeit maybe slight, that Damon Bullock and Greg Garmon will play in Saturday’s 11 a.m. game against Central Michigan at Kinnick Stadium.

“The good news is that both guys have a chance to play in this coming ball game,” coach Kirk Ferentz said during his weekly Sunday interview on hawkeyesports.com, the university’s athletic department web site. “The bad news is we really won’t know until mid-week or the end of the week.

“Both responded favorably. They both have a chance, but in the meantime, I think we have to plan as if they’re not going be here.”

Bullock left Saturday’s 27-16 victory against Northern Iowa with what appeared to be a head injury in the second quarter after rushing for 77 yards on  13 carries.

Eight plays later, Garmon left with an elbow injury during his third carry of the afternoon.

Up stepped Mark Weisman, a combination tailback-fullback who responded with 113 yards and three touchdowns on 24 rushes.
