Key numbers, Hawk heroes and Minnesota game highlights

KEY NUMBER

1.

That’s how many rivalry trophies Iowa has today, after beating Minnesota 31-13 to claim Floyd of Rosedale. The Hawkeyes had been 0-for-6 in rivalry trophy games prior to Saturday. There are still trophies in Ames, Madison, and Lincoln that Iowa would like, but the Hawkeyes don’t have to spend another season without any trophies..

HAWK HEROES

RB Mark Weisman: The sophomore fullback turned running back just continues to pile up the numbers. Weisman ran 21 times for 177 yards and scored his seventh touchdown of the season. He now has 515 yards three games.

DL Louis Trinca-Pasat: Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has been praising the growth of the big sophomore all year, and this is the reason why. The big lineman had seven tackles and caused havoc on the line of scrimmage, despite sharing time on the defensive line.

HAWK TALK

“I knew the pig was heavy, I figured I’d let him get it first.”

PIVOTAL PLAY

The biggest play might have been the one Minnesota didn’t make. With Iowa leading 3-0, Max Shortell missed a wide open receiver, Devin Crawford-Tufts, on a go route. If Shortell didn’t overthrow that, Minnesota would’ve went ahead 7-3 and changed the complexion of the game. Iowa scored on its next series to go up 10-0.
