Iowa football: Notes from Friday’s loss to Nebraska
PLAYER OF THE GAME
James Morris led a strong performance by Iowa’s linebackers. The junior had 13 tackles, including two for losses, while helping the three starters at that position combine for 34 tackles, one sack and three tackles for loss.
“Not good enough to win the game,” Morris said afterward.
“There’s always one more tackle out there someplace that you could have made.”

- The Hawkeyes’ 30-game Kinnick Stadium sellout streak ended Saturday. An annouced crowd of 69,805 watched Saturday’s game. The last non-sellout was when 67,989 watched a 24-21 victory against Arkansas State in 2009.
- Steve Bigach, normally a defensive tackle, moved outside Saturday to fill the spot manned by injured Joe Gaglione.
- Connor Kornbrath’s 61-yard fourth-quarter punt was the longest of his career. The ball bounced around the 20, then the wind blew it toward the end zone before Iowa players downed it.
LOST IN THE SHUFFLE
An 5-yard illegal substitution penalty against Iowa — after a Hawkeyes timeout — resulted in a 5-yard loss during a second-quarter series that ended with a missed 41-yard, against-the-wind field goal.
The penalty moved the ball from the Nebraska 19-yard line to the 24. “Miscommunication,” tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz said about the miscue. Fiedorowicz led Iowa with six receptions for 56 yards.
