Banner season for Iowa recruit Nic Shimonek
Iowa quarterback recruit Nic Shimonek, a verbal commitment expected to sign a letter of intent on Feb. 6, had a banner season in leading Mildred High School to a 13-2 record after Thursday’s 56-14 loss against East Bernard in the Texas Class 2-A Division II championship game at Cowboys Stadium.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder had 2,718 passing yards, and 35 touchdown passes against only six interceptions this season, but there’s more. He also rushed for 811 yards and 16 touchdowns, and the rushing total includes 31 yards of losses after six sacks in Thursday.
Shimonek exceeded 8,000 passing yards in his career. He had 99 career touchdown passes.

Iowa has 17 known commitments, according to 247sports.com. The Hawkeyes are expecting around 20 to sign letters of intent.
