The 3 for 3 blog, with a nod to the links …
1: TIGER BEING TIGER — By winning the weather-delayed Farmers Insurance Open on Monday, Tiger Woods reminded us just how incredible his career has been — and continues to be.
Woods won for the 75th time on the PGA Tour to move within seven victories of legend Sam Snead. He set a record for most PGA wins at one site — winning for the eighth time at Torrey Pines. And an incredible statistic: Woods won by at least four shots on the tour for the 23rd times.
Even when Woods struggles, as has become more common in recent years, he finds a way to reinforce that he’s yet to fall off the face of golf’s earth. And again, Woods makes a case that he still could be the best the game has ever seen.
Just because it’s interesting: GolfDigest.com released results of a survey that reveals the top players now and all-time in terms of skills like driving, putting, bunker play and more.
2: IOWA WOMEN GOBBLE UP TOP 25 WINS — If you’re a top 25 women’s basketball team on Iowa’s schedule, it’s well past time to beware.
The Hawkeyes are the only team in the nation to remain unbeaten against ranked teams of those who’ve played three or more. When Iowa knocked off then-No. 23 Michigan on the road Sunday, it moved to 6-0 against teams with numbers attached to their names.
The win catapulted coach Lisa Bluder’s team into the rankings themselves — at No. 24.
The team had the day off on Monday, which caused Bluder to joke about missing the group that’s on a huge roll.
“I’m like, ‘Dang — I’d kind of like to see them,’ ” Bluder said.
I’m writing about Iowa and one of the biggest late-game weapons in the Big Ten — free-throw shooter guru Jaime Printy — for Wednesday’s Des Moines Register.
Watch Printy show off her shooting touch during a Big Ten Network show during her junior season:
