Iowa lands St. Louis running back

[ 0 ] February 6, 2013 |

St. Louis running back Jonathan Parker announced this morning that he has signed a letter of intent with the Iowa football team.

Parker is the 21st member of Iowa’s 2013 recruting class and the third high school senior from the St. Louis area to pick the Hawkeyes for this class. Derrick  Mitchell and Andre Harris are the other players from the St. Louis area in Iowa’s 2013 class. They both are expected to play receiver for Iowa.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Parker is also the third running back in Iowa’s 2013 class, joining LeShun Daniels from Warren, Ohio and Akrum Wadley from Newark, N.J.

Wednesday marked the start of the national signing period for football.

Parker had been committed to Tulsa since September. But he received a scholarship offer from Iowa last month and then visited the Iowa campus this past weekend. Parker rushed for over 1,000 yards as a senior and also finished with more than 200 receiving yards.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. today to discuss the 2013 recruiting class.
