Iowa wrestling: Preview of Friday night’s meet
FRIDAY’S DUAL MEET
What: Iowa at Illinois
Mat Matters: The second-ranked Hawkeyes (16-1, 6-0 Big Ten) can clinch a share of their fifth Big Ten dual title in six years Friday night with a victory at No. 8 Illinois (6-4, 2-4).
Iowa is coming off a 22-16 victory against then-No. 1 Penn State. The Nittany Lions bounced back two days later with a 37-0 whipping of the Illini.
Illinois features six ranked wrestlers in its lineup, including 125-pound all-American Jesse Delgado, the only current college wrestler who owns a victory against Iowa’s Matt McDonough. Delgado topped the two-time NCAA champion 11-7 in Dec. 2011. The Iowa senior has won 42 straight matches since the defeat.
Iowa’s Nick Moore (165) and Mike Evans (174) will face a pair of eighth-ranked all-Americans when they take on Conrad Polz and Jordan Blanton.
