Mike Gesell will miss Purdue game due to injury
IOWA CITY, Ia. – Iowa freshman guard Mike Gesell will miss his first college basketball game of the season today when Iowa hosts Purdue at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Gesell was not in uniform and had a boot on his right ankle Wednesday, an hour before Iowa’s 7:30 p.m. game with the Boilermakers. Gesell, the Hawkeyes’ third-leading scorer at 9.0 points a game, was injured in the second half of Saturday’s loss at Nebraska.
Gesell had started the first 27 games this season, switching between point guard and shooting guard. His place in the starting lineup will be taken by Josh Oglesby.
