Video provides peek at posh Hawkeye football facility
The University of Iowa released a video Wednesday that provides a virtual tour through the yet-to-be-built football facility. The launch date, according to the release, for the 76,000-square-foot “UI Football Operations Center,” is late summer or fall of 2014.
Ground is expected to broken later this spring. The building will be positioned near Kinnick Stadium, with the entrance off Evashevski Drive.
Among the highlights of the facility, as narrated by Gary Dolphin:
–Interactive kiosks and displays for fans on a three-level Hall of Champions.
–An All-American room that will honor past Hawkeye legends and host recruiting events and press conferences.
–A 2,500-square-foot private player lounge with video games, table games and (presumably high-definition) TVs.
–Glass-encased position meeting rooms that overlook a 21,000-square-foot strength-and-conditioning floor loaded with weight-lifting and exercise equipment.
–And, finally, there’s a 4,500-square-foot players’ locker room. (It’s the home locker room, so no pink paint.)
The school says the $55 million project is funded by the athletic department and uses no public dollars.
