Nate Kaeding, former Hawkeye, signs with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

[ 0 ] April 2, 2013 |

Iowa native Nate Kaeding said he has agreed to a one-year deal to kick for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kaeding, 31, of Iowa City, confirmed to DesMoinesRegister.com early Tuesday that he will move cross-state after playing for the Miami Dolphins a season ago.

The two-time Pro Bowl pick played for San Diego from 2004 until last season, when he was released after rehabbing from an ACL injury. When the Chargers released Kaeding, he was 7-for-7 on the season and left as the league’s most accurate regular-season kicker in history with at least 100 attempts — at 87 percent.

Kaeding, the 2002 winner of the Lou Groza Award as college football’s top kicker while playing at Iowa, finished 1-for-3 for the Dolphins last season after his first attempt was blocked.

Tampa Bay placekicker Connor Barth, who signed a four-year deal before last season, hit 28 of 33 field-goal attempts in 2012.
