You vote: Which of the Big Four announcers do you prefer?

[ 0 ] June 28, 2013 |

Andrew Logue of The Des Moines Register writes a weekly feature called “Media Timeout.” And he has a question for all you Big Four fans.

Which of the Big Four announcers do you prefer? Here are the candidates, and please cast your vote below.

John Walters – The voice of Cyclones sports since 2003, Walters continues to provide an authoritative, steady presence during Iowa State football and basketball games. He’s low key, seldom flashy, but rarely flummoxed.

Gary Dolphin – Replaced Hawkeye icon Jim Zabel in 1996 and became a familiar, often imitated figure. It’s sometimes difficult to tell exactly what’s going on, but Dolphin’s passion is never in doubt.

Gary Rima – Perhaps the most distinctive style of any in-state play-by-play announcer. Panthers fans adore him. Others may have less favorable views. When it comes to Rima, there’s no middle ground.

Larry Cotlar – Being the lead Bulldog isn’t as glamorous as calling games for the other three schools, but Cotlar carried his audience through Drake’s memorable 2008 men’s basketball season and an NCAA Tournament berth.
