Player safety popular topic at Big Ten meetings

[ 0 ] July 24, 2013 |

Player safety is emerging as a popular topic during Big Ten Conference media days.

The main questions: Are rules against “Targeting” good for the game, and how can they be enforced consistently without watering the sport down?

“It’s kind of a tough line,” Wisconsin receiver Jared Abbrederis said. “Obviously, it’s good to have player safety… There’s a time when it comes, and it’s football.

“We know that injuries are going to happen. Some of them are inevitable.”

Abbrederis suffered two concussions last season.

“It’s a tough subject, because… Where do you draw the line,” Abbrederis asked. “I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision.”
