Rudock went 21-of-37 for 256 yards and a touchdown, but also threw a costly interception.

“His awareness was good,” Ferentz said. “It was a real positive first step for him. We wanted to win the game, obviously, but there was some good things that happened.”

Rudock also seemed upbeat.

“I’d say we looked very fluid for the first game out,” he said. “We did some good things out there, but obviously there’s a lot of stuff to correct.”

Rudock said the interception came because he threw behind the receiver. Ferentz agreed.

“For sure, you want to throw the ball away from the defender,” Ferentz said. “If your guy can’t get it, you want to make sure their guy can’t get it.

“There might have been a better place to go with the ball, too.”
