Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said that freshman running back LeShun Daniels will see the field against Missouri State on Saturday.
“Our plan was to play him all the way, it just didn’t open up the other day (against Northern Illinois),” Ferentz said. “He’s on the straight ahead list right now.”
Only one true freshman – defensive back Desmond King – played Saturday. King went in for Jordan Lomax at right corner. King is the only true freshman on this week’s two-deep.
“He competed well,” Ferentz said of the 5-foot-11 King, who is from Detroit, Mich. “There were some technique things he can improve on. But he wasn’t overwhelmed. He had a good demeanor on the sidelines. He was eager to compete. He’s in the water swimming now.”
Senior B.J. Lowery, Iowa’s starter at left cornerback, wasn’t surprised that King got in the game.
“That’s the normal thing here at Iowa,” Lowery said. “Defensive backs usually come in and play as freshmen.”
Both Lowery and Lomax played as true freshmen.
