Missouri State coach Terry Allen will be making his fourth appearance as a coach at Kinnick Stadium. His previous appearances came as a head coach at Northern Iowa in 1995 and as an assistant at Iowa State in 2002 and 2004.

“I had an awful good time there one year,” Allen said. “The Seneca year.”

In 2002, Cyclone quarterback Seneca Wallace rallied his team from a 24-7 halftime deficit for a 36-31 win.

Allen’s team comes to Kinnick Stadium 0-1 after opening the season with a 23-17 home loss to Northwestern State last week.

“We’re struggling,” said Allen, in his eighth season at the school. “I still think we can be a very competitive team in our league. I really believe that. We just didn’t play as well as we should have in our home opener. Obviously, we’re not in the caliber of Iowa or a Big Ten school. But we’re not terrible.”

Hitchens impresses: Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz heaped praise on senior linebacker Anthony Hitchens.

“That’s the best I’ve seen Hitchens play,” Ferentz said. “ Ever. And that’s encouraging.”

Hitchens had six solo tackles, seven assists, one tackle for a loss and one quarterback hurry Saturday.

“He was reacting quickly,” Ferentz said. “He was seeing things faster and getting there in a bad attitude.”
