IOWA CITY, Ia. – For Terry Allen, familiar faces were everywhere — even in the postgame press conference.

Allen, who played and coached for Northern Iowa, is in his eighth season at Missouri State.

After his Bears lost to Iowa 28-14 on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, he greeted reporters. In the middle of an interview, he stopped and acknowledged longtime broadcaster Bob Brooks.

“Mr. Brooks, I’ve got to interrupt everybody and shake your hand,” Allen said. “How are you, sir? Everything good?”

After the two got reacquainted, Allen went on to talk about his return to his hometown.

“Other than the outcome of the game, it was a wonderful weekend,” he said. “I got to see a lot of people last night.

“My family was in from all over the place.”

Allen posted a 75-26 record at Northern Iowa from 1989-96, making the NCAA I-AA playoffs seven times.

His father, Robert, played for the Hawkeyes in the 1930s and went on to coach the Iowa men’s swimming team.

Allen is 28-50 at Missouri State.

“Iowa is going to be a physical football team,” Allen said after Saturday’s loss. “They really imposed their will on us in the fourth quarter.

“We made a game of it. … They won the physical battle.”

The Bears host Northern Iowa on Nov. 16.
