IOWA CITY, Ia. – Brandon Scherff comes from Denison, a hotbed for college football rivalries. You can find Iowa fans, Iowa State fans and Nebraska fans aplenty in this western Iowa community.
“It’s awesome,” Iowa’s starting left offensive tackle said. “I love going home and having people tell me good job, or whatever. They also give me some crap….’We can’t wait until you play here, I’m going to be rooting for Iowa State.’ You just have to get past that and play the game.”
Scherff, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound junior, was recruited by Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and others. Gene Chizik was the first Cyclone coach to recruit him. Paul Rhoads took a shot, too, before Scherff selected the Hawkeyes.
“I’m happy with my choice,” Scherff said. “I loved the coaching staff at Iowa, the tradition of the offensive line and the strength and conditioning program. I also like the family atmosphere we have here.”
