IOWA CITY, Ia. – The first question at Kirk Ferentz’s weekly press conference had nothing to do with football.
The Hawkeye coach was asked about items stolen from his team’s locker room during Saturday’s 27-21 win over Iowa State.
“Sounds like everything is being worked on right now,” Ferentz said of the investigation by Iowa State University Police. “Things will be replaced, but as you might imagine it’s inconvenient for the people involved.”
Cell phones and $50 in cash were taken from nine members of the Iowa team and staff. Police have said there was no forced entry.
Ferentz was asked if he’s ever experienced a situation where things were missing from a locker room.
“Not on away trips that I’m aware of,” he said. “If we have, I’ve forgot about it.”
The coach was also asked what the University of Iowa does to prevent such an incident from happening.
“I’m not exactly sure,” Ferentz said. “I think we have real good security and we were told that was the case there (in Ames).
“It’s just one of those unfortunate things.”
