Former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi deserves a chance to show what he can do for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Yahoo! Sports columnist Matt Gonzales wrote Monday.
Chad Henne isn’t getting the job done for the 0-3 Jaguars, so Gonzales thinks it’s time to make a change.
Stanzi is a guy who never really got a shot in Kansas City, due to a plethora of reasons — one of which could have been he simply was not showing enough in practice. He clearly did not stand out during his time in the midwest or else the organization would have held on to him as insurance in the event Alex Smith were to go down. This is a guy who has yet to throw a single pass in a regular season NFL game.
With the Jaguars’ clear lack of productivity at the quarterback position, why not give Stanzi a shot? We know what Henne will give the team, which is three quarters of nothing, and a quarter of pitch and catch when the game has already been decided.
Indeed, this is Stanzi’s third NFL season, and he has never played in a regular-season game. The 26-year-old Ohio native had great success for the Hawkeyes, leading them to an Orange Bowl victory in January 2010.
Jacksonville plays host to Indianapolis on Sunday.
