Here’s something you definitely did not know about Iowa’s B.J. Lowery

[ 0 ] September 24, 2013 |

Football isn’t the only game cornerback B.J. Lowery excels at.

“He plays Monopoly,” Ferentz revealed. “How’s that?

“He’s got his own little Monopoly set. Put that one in the Hawkeye trivia bank.”

Lowery earned Big Ten player of the week honors after returning two interceptions for touchdowns against Western Michigan.

But his choice of hobbies seems more stunning.

“I was shocked,” Ferentz said. “Nobody plays Monopoly. Nobody plays board games, anymore.

“Makes him a dinosaur, doesn’t it?”

Lowery success has become legendary within the team.

“He might have 5 dollars left,” defensive tackle Carl Davis said, “and then go on and win the whole game.”

PENN STATE REVERSAL

The NCAA announced Tuesday it would reduce some of the penalties levied on Penn State, in wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

When asked about it, Ferentz said he did not know many details, but was supportive of Nittany Lions coach Bill O’Brein.

“I think anything that happened sounds like it was favorable for them,” Ferentz said. “I’m in favor of that.  I think that was a bad deal, personally.”

Penn State will gradually regain scholarships that were taken away by the NCAA.

“It just seems like the target got missed,” Ferentz said. “That’s just my opinion. But it seemed like the people that paid the price… shouldn’t have paid a price.

“That’s just my outsider looking in.  I’m looking at the players and coaches, I guess.  I’ve got a pretty narrow scope on that one.”

BUCKEYES CONSISTENT

Ferentz doesn’t like putting other Big Ten team on a pedestal, but there is one program that might qualify.

“Ohio State,” Ferentz said. “I’m 24 years in the league, (and) they’ve been pretty good.

“You go back to Paul Brown… they’ve been pretty good.  Outside of that, there’s always obvious suspects, but that’s the fun part about football and sports, you just never know who’s going to do well.”
