Pat Harty: What Mr. Optimist and Mr. Pessimist think

[ 0 ] October 5, 2013 |

Pat Harty talks to Mr. Optimist and Mr. Pessimist about what they thought after Iowa’s loss to Michigan State.

Mr. Optimist: Iowa sophomore Connor Kornbrath averaged an impressive 44.2 yards per punt against Michigan State on Saturday.

Mr. Pessimist: You know it’s bad when you have to highlight the punter. He also punted eight times.

Mr. Optimist: Iowa quarterback Jake Rudock completed passes to 10 players on Saturday.

Mr. Pessimist: He also completed two passes to Michigan State defenders, giving Rudock six interceptions for the season.

Mr. Optimist: Iowa is heading into a bye week, which means it has two weeks to heal and prepare for the Oct. 19 game at Ohio State.

Mr. Pessimist: Ohio State also is headed into a bye week, not that it would really matter, considering the Buckeyes have a 29-8-1 record against Iowa in Columbus.

Mr. Optimist:  Iowa held its opponent scoreless in the first quarter for the fifth consecutive game.

Mr. Pessimist: Michigan State held Iowa scoreless for the entire second half.

Mr. Optimist: After getting burned again by a fake punt, Iowa has learned its lesson and will make the proper adjustments in preparation for the Ohio State game.

Mr. Pessimist: You’re assuming Ohio State will have to punt.

Mr. Optimist:  With records of 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten, Iowa is still in contention for a Legends Division title.

Mr. Pessimist: Last year’s team was also 4-2 at this stage and 2-0 in the conference and look how that turned out.
