Big Ten announces 2018-19 slate; Iowa-Ohio State series hits lull

[ 0 ] October 16, 2013 |

Iowa’s Big Ten football game at No. 4 Ohio State Saturday will be the Hawkeyes’ last game at Ohio Stadium in the foreseeable future.

The Big Ten released league football schedules for the 2018 and 2019 seasons today. The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes don’t play in either of those seasons. After Saturday, the only time they meet again over the next six years will be a Nov. 4, 2017 contest at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

In addition to Ohio State, the Hawkeyes’ 2018 schedule does not include Michigan or Michigan State. Iowa will play four home conference games in 2018 and five home conference games in 2019.

In addition, Iowa’s games with Nebraska – in Iowa City in 2018 and in Lincoln in 2019 – will continue to be played the day after Thanksgiving.

The Big Ten moves to a new division format next season, when Maryland and Rutgers join the league.

Iowa will be in the West Division with Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin. The East Division will be Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers.

The Big Ten will move to a nine-game league schedule in 2016.
