Iowa out to emulate Wildcats’ knack for causing turnovers

[ 0 ] October 22, 2013 |

IOWA CITY, Ia. – Northwestern has gained more turnovers than any other team in the Big Ten Conference.

And Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz would like to follow the Wildcats’ lead.

“They’ve been aggressive to (the ball),” Ferentz said. “They’re checking you out at every turn.  If you don’t have good ball security, you pay for it.”

Northwestern has intercepted 13 passes and recovered four fumbles for a total of 17. The Hawkeyes have forced 12 turnovers (nine interceptions, three fumbles), but have a modest plus-1 turnover margin.

“That’s one of the things on our wish list,” Ferentz said. “We’d like to see that number start moving north a little bit.”
