A familiar face with a familiar voice returned to Kinnick Stadium for Saturday’s game against Northwestern.
Former Iowa sports information director Phil Haddy filled in as the public address announcer in the Iowa press box at Kinnick Stadium, providing play-by-play for reporters, along with other updates.
Haddy used to be the regular PA announcer in the press box, but he quit after being promoted to Iowa Sports Information Director in 1993, a job from which he retired in 2010.
Former City High track coach John Raffensperger replaced Haddy as the PA announcer and has held the position for most of the past two decades. However, Raffensperger wasn’t able to attend Saturday’s game after having a medical procedure performed during the week.
“He’ll be back next week,” Haddy said of Raffensperger.
