It wasn’t enough to defeat Wisconsin, but James Morris, Christian Kirksey and Anthony Hitchens have developed into a powerful triumvirate for the Hawkeyes.

“I think the No. 1 thing is they know how to get lined up,” said former Ohio State and NFL linebacker Chris Spielman, who was part of ABC’s broadcast crew for Saturday’s game. “They work very well together. They know where each other is going to be. They trust each other.

“And to me, knowing that position you don’t have to do anything but your job. And the last thing is they’re all productive, and they all have their strengths.”

Morris led Iowa with 12 tackles on Saturday, including two for losses, the 18th time he’s had double-digit stops in his career. Morris passed Tom Rusk and moved into seventh on the Hawkeyes’ all-time list with 369 tackles.

The Solon native also twice has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week this season.

“He’s smart and he understands and he makes plays and he produces,” Spielman said.
